The South Carolina State Legislature recently passed a bill giving 4K program providers the ability to offer an extended school year and/or school day based on the needs of the families being served. As a result, Thornwell has chosen to offer the following three options for families enrolled in their 4K program during the 2017-2018 school year:

Option #1
The first option is a 180- day school year running from August 22, 2017 through June 6, 2018. The school day will begin at 7:30 am and end at 2:30 pm. Afterschool care will be available from 2:30 pm until 5:30 pm with a charge of $30 per week.

Option #2
The second option is a 180-day school year running from August 22, 2017 through June 6, 2018. The school day will begin at 8:00 am and end at 4:30 pm. Afterschool care will be available from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm with a charge of $15 per week.

Option #3
The third option is a 220-day school year beginning on August 22, 2017 and will include 8 weeks (40 days) of school during the summer months. The school day will begin at 8:00 am and end at 4:30 pm. Afterschool care will be available from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm with a charge of $15 per week.

“We believe the State Legislature has given us the opportunity to better serve and meet the needs of the families and children in our 4K program,” said Brooke Robinette, Thornwell Child Development Center Director. “These options allow our parents the ability to enroll their child in a high quality Early Childhood Education program while also meeting the childcare needs of their family.”

Thornwell is licensed to serve up to 80 children in the 4K program. Applications are being accepted now, and the program is filling up quickly.

“We encourage all parents interested in enrolling their child or those wishing to learn more about our program, to call us or stop by the school office soon,” said Norman Dover, Thornwell VP of Educational Services. “We welcome the opportunity to give families a tour of our facilities and to answer any questions they may have concerning 4K.”
