Rachel is a single mother of five children who recently participated in Thornwell’s Building Families program in Florida. In addition to caring for her children, Rachel relocated and gave up her job to care for her aging father.

The Building Families program helped Rachel manage the chaos she felt because of the move and caring for her children and aging parent. Rachel attended Building Families program classes at the host church for 12 weeks and learned how to create a system to motivate positive behaviors in her children. Plus, the church heard about Rachel’s troubles and donated clothes, gifts, and food for her family. Just in time for Christmas.

The Building Families program is currently located in four host churches in Florida. Thornwell wants to serve more families in need and is looking to expand the program in the Tampa Bay area. Thornwell has recently hired a second family specialist to accommodate more families who have expressed interest in receiving services, and we are exploring a second host church site in the Tampa Bay area.
